There is a “pretty good” GPS application built into The Villages official app <HERE>, but a newer app was developed that gives better guidance especially when using a golf cart to travel through The Villages
The Villages GPS app is in the iOS and Android (Google) Play store. You should download this even before you visit The Villages. Yes, it is a “paid” app since the developers of this app (BK Partnership, LLC) is not officially tied to The Villages management. The developers tout the following benefits (and I concur with its superior method of navigation)….Just be sure to get a bracket that mounts your smartphone to the golf cart <HERE>….You don’t want your phone slipping off your lap while crossing the Lake Sumter bridge!
- Navigation gives turn by turn directions by voice
- Search functions allows for street address, name or by map view
- Current Golf Course Conditions from your fellow Villagers
- Daily Activities and the most comprehensive list of Clubs anywhere
The home screen of the Villages GPS app is cleanly laid out to let you select a destination especially for the executive golf courses. You can’t get to the Executive courses using Google maps! The route via golf cart will take you in and out of villages in order to keep your cart off the main roads.
BUT, before you even use the Villages GPS app, be sure to familiarize yourself with the overall geography layout of The Villages <HERE>.
