First-time Visit

If it’s your first time visiting The Villages, here are some “must-do” itinerary items. Even if it’s a day trip, you’ll be amazed at the breadth and depth of social life, activities, and things to see from dawn to dusk (and beyond)

Day 1:

Drive AroundStart your journey in The Villages by taking an hour or so to drive around. I suggest you drive the two main North-South roads, starting by going South on Buena Vista. You can start as far North as Rt 42 (Publix at Mulberry) and travel South (crossing Rt 466 and Rt 4676A) all the way to Rt 44. A total of 12 miles (in about 30 minutes).

Continue South on Meggison Rd, alongside the Florida Turnpike into the newer sections of The Villages. Cross over Warm Springs Ave on Meggison, and look for Sawgrass Grove and the Ezell Recreation Center. Turn around on Megisson and turn right (North) onto Morse Blvd. Drive up to Lake Sumter Landing (20+ minutes)
Boat TourAt Lake Sumter Landing, The Villages runs boat tours that have on-board guides that will provide you with a first-time wealth of information. The boats leave from the dock behind RJ Gators restaurant and take about 1/2 hour (Outdoor Excursions (districtgov.org))
Real Estate OfficeBe sure to stop by any of The Villages Real Estate sales offices even if you’re just here for a day. They can provide you with lots of information to take away including brochures and maps. Be sure to get a full Villages map! There is a real estate office in the main square at Lake Sumter Landing, and also south in Brownwood and north in Spanish Springs.
Trolley TourThe real estate offices run trolley tours that also provide you with a ton of information and travels past golf course, recreation centers, and other points of interest.
LunchIf you take a trolley tour from one of the real estate offices (e.g., from Sumter Landing), each town square has many restaurants to choose from. In the largest town square at Lake Sumter, it’s a great idea to “drink in” the people of The Villages by having lunch.
