Part of getting around The Villages is the beauty of walking or bicycling. Although many people migrate around via golf carts and street-legal carts, there are some special topics that need to be mentioned for walking or bicycling.
The “multi-modal” paths are defined by The Villages District Management as “shared paths” and their web site states: “”Who is allowed to use the multi-modal paths throughout The Villages?” This is a question that the District receives on a regular basis. The multi-modal paths are for use by NON-AUTOMOTIVE traffic such as bicycles, golf carts, pedestrians, and skaters. It is not legal…nor is it smart…to drive vehicles such as smart cars, motorcycles, or mopeds on any of the multi-modal paths in The Villages.
Lucy Says:
These multi-modal paths are frequented by golf carts all day and night. Walkers and bicyclists should ALWAYS be very aware of higher-speed golf carts. And golf cart drivers and passenger should keep aware of bicyclists and walkers.
There are a number of paths (especially in the newer Southern sections of The Villages) that are designed for walking & bicycling ONLY. Golf carts are NOT allowed on these paths. You can see the complete map of these newer walking/bicycling paths <HERE>
The Villages also includes a number of distinct nature trail areas. The most easily accessable nature trail for a short strol is located next to the Fenney Recreation Center. A complete map of walking trails is <HERE>. They include:
- Sharon Rose Wiechens Preserve: it covers 624 acres of a wetland area with a viewing boardwalk. This preserve is just North of Belle Glade Country Club
- Hogeye Preserve Pathway: a 2.5 mile pathway. It is planned to connect to the rest of the Villages 16-mile trail system (as of March 2023)
- Fenney Springs Nature Trail: this is a 0.25 mile walkway next to the Fenney pool
- Lake Okahumpa Rec Center trail (scheduled to be opened)
