Recreation Centers

The Villages has established areas and buildings called recreation centers. There are “regional” centers as well as village centers. These are also the areas where residents go to pick-up their mail and packages (excepting some services that drop at your home)

The Recreation Centers have a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities including:

  • Sports Pools are typically used for water aerobics and lap swimming (Residents only, 30+ years old)
  • Neighborhood Pools are places to “hang out” and catch sun with local residents (30+ years of age)
  • Family Pools are the place to go for families with people under the age of 30
  • Indoor meeting rooms are used for almost all club activities such as cards, pool, family and neighborhood parties, etc
  • Indoor ballrooms and stages are used for large classes such as Zoomba, yoga, exercise.

Specialty Facilities

The Villages also has several “recreational” facilities that are special purpose including:

Woodshops:
There are currently two (2) woodworking facilities that started when villagers brought their own equipment. The facilities are club-managed, but now owned by The Villages. The woodworking club has their own web site <HERE>. There is a waiting list to join the club and they tout that we have over 850 members.  We are focused on three disciplines: 1) general woodworking which incorporates most common equipment and covers making everything from a small box to an entertainment center or a bedroom suite; 2) turning which involves work one of 11 lathes and covers making pens, bowls, salt and pepper mills, spindles etc.; and 3) carving which covers primitive carving, chip carving, caricatures, and birds so real they look as if they could fly away!  In each of those fields we have rank amateurs to masters of their art.

Softball Fields:
The Villages Recreation Softball Program is a program offered to residents of The Villages and is organized by VCDD Recreation Department. They have posted an overall FAQ document <HERE>. There are different types of leagues:
— Recreation leagues play twice a week Monday through Friday
— Neighborhood leagues play each Saturday

There are multiple softball field locations:
— Kundson Softball Field: 1403 Paradise Dr.
— Buffalo Glen Softball Complex: 305 Tatonka Terrace
— Saddlebrook Softball Complex: 2890 Saddlebrook Ln.
— Soaring Eagle Softball Complex: 4390 Morse Blvd.
— Everglades Softball Complex: 5467 Marsh Bend Trail

The age requirements to participate in senior softball are; a male player must become at least 50 and a female player at least 40 years of age during the calendar year to be eligible to play in Senior Divisions that calendar year. All players must undergo Player Evaluations before they can play Softball.
